Mary Rose has loved to draw and paint since her early childhood, having been supplied always with pastels by her grandmother. She studied privately for some years with respected Tallahassee portrait artist Edward Gordon. Mr. Gordon had studied under Haddon Sundblom in Chicago and was a successful illustrator for years, having illustrated one of the Sally, Dick, and Jane readers. He then turned to portraiture as a successful means of expressing his creativity and strong observational skills. It was a privilege to have studied under this remarkable gentleman. Mr. Gordon was 87 years old when he accepted Ms. Rose into his weekly class where he taught from his studio that looked out over the beautiful Lake Talquin.
Mary has painted many portrait commissions in the North Florida area and has also had success as a landscape artist. Her paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the North Florida, South Georgia region. She has won awards for her work on both local and regional levels. The artist currently resides in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area where she lives with her husband and daughter. She enjoys a sensitivity to the individual qualities inherent in each individual whether a child or adult. Her range extends from pastel-like impressionistic imagery to the deeper warm tones seen in the tradition of the Masters. Each individual and their setting dictate their own unique translation. Ms. Rose would welcome meeting with you and discussing your needs in determining what would work best
for your anticipated painting.
